1. Connect & Demonstrate

Choose two or three visible pieces. Demonstrate turning a shape to fit a simple space: ‘Turn, try, and see.’

2. Share the Play

Take turns placing one piece and name one feature, such as its colour, shape or position. Invite your child to point at the next open space.

3. Grow Together

Work towards filling the entire tray, copy a photo pattern, or build a new mosaic together without a time limit.

Inclusive play adaptations

For ADHD, complete only a small section and celebrate a clear finish. For autistic children, show a model of the completed shape and keep colour groups consistent. For children with developmental, intellectual or motor differences, use larger layouts where available, pre-place some pieces and offer visual or hand-over-hand support only with consent.

Communication tip: Accept spoken words, signs, pointing, picture cards and AAC. Celebrate participation rather than correctness. Do not force eye contact or physical contact.
