Level 1 — Connect & Demonstrate

Hold one page where your baby or child can see it. Say “Hello, crab!” and gently touch the soft red detail. Pause to notice any eye gaze, reaching, facial expression, movement or vocalization.

Level 2 — Share the Play

Let your child choose when to turn the page. Say “Your turn. Which animal next?” Offer two page choices. Share each texture slowly, accepting eye gaze, touch, pointing, gestures, vocalization or AAC as the answer.

Level 3 — Grow Together

For an older child, ask “Can you find the red animal?” or “Which page makes a crinkly sound?” Compare soft and rustling textures or invent a two-page story together. Introduce a new sensory element only when welcomed.

Adjustments for Different Needs

• Autism / tactile sensitivities: begin with a smooth, familiar page. Offer choice and do not force crinkly textures or sounds.
• ADHD or high activity: alternate a brief page exploration with movement and playful animal actions.
