1. Connect and demonstrate

Place a red stick into an opening and say 'Red goes here.' Wait while the child points, watches or tries.

2. Share the play

Give a choice between 'Music or shapes?' Take turns tapping one bar, turning a flower, or putting a piece in the cube.

3. Grow together

Copy a gentle tap-tap rhythm, match two different shapes, or make a two-colour pattern before taking a break.

Adapt for different learners

ADHD and high activity levels: use short two-to-four-minute rounds, a clear end point and optional movement breaks. Autism and sensory differences: allow exploratory time first, keep a predictable first-then sequence and reduce sound or visual demands when helpful. Developmental delay or intellectual disability: demonstrate one movement at a time, simplify choices and allow extra response time. Motor differences: stabilise the board and adapt the grip without forcing hand movements. Communication differences: invite gestures, pictures, pointing and AAC; spoken responses and eye contact are not required.
