Kinmilo Together Time: A Parent–Child Play Plan
1. Connect & demonstrate
Put only one board and three pieces on the table. Show the circle slot and say, “Round goes here!” Drop a circle through its matching space and praise the child's attempt rather than speed or correctness.
2. Share the play
Take turns choosing one colour and shape. Say “My turn — blue triangle,” then “Your turn — which shape?” Use a gesture, picture board or AAC button for “circle,” “square,” “help” and “more.” With younger learners, use the bell only if they enjoy the sound.
3. Grow together
Introduce matching challenge cards, sorting by two properties (red triangle), repeating sequences and a turn-taking two-board activity. Progress from single-piece matching to brief pattern-copying games.
Adapt play for different learners
ADHD / high activity: use three pieces per round, alternate calm and active tasks, and avoid stressful speed competitions. ASD / autism: preview shapes and bell sounds, let the child opt out of noisy play and use consistent start/finish prompts. Developmental, intellectual or language disabilities: offer one board with fewer shapes and accept pointing, touching, signs or AAC instead of spoken labels.
