What's pictured / What to choose
The selected variant only: professional or home rod set, number cards or rod stand, as identified in the option label. Rods and optional accessories are not all included in every variant.
Step 1 — Connect & demonstrate
Place the shortest rod beside the next length. Trace each one with your finger and say, “This is short; this is longer.” Invite the child to carry one rod safely and put it beside its match.
Step 2 — Share the play
Take turns making a red staircase or counting the coloured segments on a red-blue rod: “I count one; you count two.” Use number cards or AAC number choices where available.
Step 3 — Grow together
Order all ten rods, find a missing length, compare two rods end-to-end and make simple combinations such as 2 units + 3 units = 5 units. Progress slowly from touching length to symbols.
Adaptations for different learners
ADHD and high activity: Use a floor mat, three rods at a time and brief walking-and-carrying turns; keep long rods away from other children when carried. Autism / ASD: Present the rods in a predictable visual order, use the same work mat and avoid moving completed rows unexpectedly. Developmental, language or intellectual disabilities: Begin with just longest/shortest, guide side-by-side alignment visually and accept pointing, eye gaze and AAC for the chosen number. Children can communicate through words, gestures, pointing, signs, pictures or AAC.
Parent FAQ — Montessori & Waldorf
These are Montessori-style sensorial maths materials. Waldorf-inspired use can focus on rhythm, sequence and playful arranging. Accessories are separate variants, not automatically bundled.
Safety, documentation & learning goals
Build opportunities for parent-child connection, attention, choice-making, fine-motor coordination and communication at the child's own pace. These are educational play suggestions, not a treatment, diagnosis or guaranteed developmental outcome. Adult supervision is needed; review age guidance, small-part risks and product condition before play. Kinmilo states CPC and CE compliance documentation is available on request for the applicable item.
