Kinmilo Together Time: A Parent–Child Play Plan
1. Connect & demonstrate
Put just two colours of counters on the table. Hold the scoop or tongs and slowly move one ball to the matching cup, saying, 'Red goes with red.' Then show the same action without speaking.
2. Share the play
One person picks a colour while the other moves a matching piece. Alternate 'pick', 'move' and 'check' roles and use 'more', 'help', 'finished' picture symbols if useful.
3. Grow together
Work from two colours to all colours; match a picture pattern, count a row, or build a repeated AB sequence. For older learners, use number cards for addition stories with physical counters.
Inclusive play adjustments
For ADHD and active learners: Begin with one two-minute round, give a single instruction, use a visual finished cue and offer movement breaks. For autistic (ASD) learners: Demonstrate a predictable first–then sequence; support parallel play and respect sensory boundaries without requiring eye contact. For developmental delay, intellectual disability or additional support needs: Reduce the number of pieces, slow the pace, offer repeated demonstrations and wait for any form of response. For children who use AAC, gestures or pictures: Model 'my turn', 'your turn', 'help', 'stop', 'more' and choice-making without insisting on speech.
Parent tips
Notice what your child enjoys, invite rather than compel participation, and praise shared engagement, choices and experimentation. Adapt the activity to the child's developmental stage and stop when they show signs of fatigue or distress.
Safety & care
Contains loose small balls or counters and possibly transfer tools: small parts present a choking risk. Use only when age-appropriate under direct adult supervision and store components securely after play. Adult guidance and age appropriateness matter more than any suggested age in an example play plan.
