Kinmilo Together Time: A Parent–Child Play Plan
1. Connect & demonstrate
Set the bench on a steady low table. Hold the mallet and make one light tap on a peg while saying, 'Tap! It moved!' Offer the child a chance to copy with help if wanted.
2. Share the play
Take turns choosing a colour and gently tapping a peg. Use clear 'my turn', 'your turn', 'stop' cues and offer a pause after each turn.
3. Grow together
Try matching colour instructions, making a two-peg sequence or counting taps on one peg. Work toward turning the bench over to reset independently when ready.
Adapt play for each child
- ADHD / high activity levels: Offer brief sessions, one manageable goal, movement breaks and an easy visual 'finished' routine. Praise participation rather than speed.
- Autism (ASD): Make the next step predictable; present a single example, follow sensory preferences and allow parallel play, gestures or quiet observation.
- Developmental delays and intellectual disabilities: Start with just one or two pieces or moves, use repeated demonstration, slow responses and optional physical support with the child's consent.
- Non-speaking or emerging communicators: Encourage choices through pointing, pictures, gestures or AAC for 'more', 'help', 'again', 'my turn' and 'stop'. Speech and eye contact are never required for successful participation.
For parents & carers
Follow the child's interests, notice small moments of shared attention and offer the easiest version first. Never force a turn or continue through distress. Celebrate curiosity, communication and self-directed exploration.
Care & safety
Always supervise use of the mallet, practise gentle taps away from hands and faces, and set the bench on a non-slip surface. Inspect pegs and mallet for loosening or cracks. Verify the age guidance and included pieces on the selected product's packaging.
