Kinmilo Wooden Multi-Instrument Music & Percussion Play Station – Drum & Xylophone Set
Explore rhythm, sound and playful musical turn-taking
Kinmilo's Wooden Multi-Instrument Music & Percussion Play Station brings several simple instruments together in one hands-on wooden activity center. Colourful xylophone bars, drums, cymbal-style pieces and tapping accessories invite children to discover high and low sounds, timing, movement and shared music-making. The family can explore the sounds of each instrument without a screen.
Kinmilo Together Time: A Parent–Child Play Plan
Start small. Play together. Follow your child's pace. A practical 3–5 minute starting activity, with no pressure to perform.
- 1 · Connect & demonstrate: Offer one instrument and play one gentle beat. Say, “My turn. Now your turn.”
- 2 · Share the play: Echo a two-beat rhythm together, pausing so your child can respond with a tap, movement or gesture.
- 3 · Grow together: Let your child become the conductor: invite them to choose the instrument, speed or quiet/loud pattern.
Make the activity work for your child
For sound sensitivity, start softly and offer control over volume and breaks; for attention differences, try just two turns. Non-speaking responses and AAC choices count as participation.
What matters most: notice your child's interests, offer genuine choices, welcome different ways of communicating, and end on a positive shared moment. These are educational play opportunities, not treatments or guaranteed outcomes.
Music and developmental play opportunities
- Auditory discrimination: listen for differences between gentle tapping and bright xylophone notes.
- Hand coordination: practise gripping the mallet, reaching, tapping and switching between instruments.
- Cause and effect: notice the sound change after striking a different instrument.
- Shared attention: copy a short rhythm, pause, and invite a child to take the next turn.
Caregiver-led play ideas for diverse learning needs
- Discover one sound: introduce only one drum or bar. Model one soft tap, give the child a comfortable chance to imitate, and pause to listen together.
- Use a 'my turn / your turn' rhythm: play two soft beats and point to the child's turn card. Use an AAC symbol or gesture if the child communicates without speech.
- For ADHD or highly active children: offer an energetic 'play two beats, stand up and stretch' cycle rather than lengthy seated instructions.
- For autistic children: let the child preview each instrument and choose an enjoyable sound. Reduce volume and start with one familiar sequence if sound sensitivity is present.
- For developmental or intellectual disabilities: begin with one mallet and a large drum surface, then slowly introduce choices and hand switching.
- Practice expression: invite the child to choose between 'loud/soft', 'fast/slow' or 'more/finished' with gestures, pictures or speech.
- Make family music: caregiver taps the xylophone, child taps the drum, then exchange roles. Praise participation and exploration rather than performance.
