Follow the Journey: Ball Runs, Cars and Predictable Movement

The Kinmilo Wooden Multi-Level Ball Run & Car Ramp gives children a large vertical structure for rolling colourful balls and miniature wooden cars along a series of smooth descending tracks. Watch objects travel across the wooden lanes, change direction and reach the bottom, then reset for another turn.

Kinmilo Together Time: A Parent–Child Play Plan

Start small. Play together. Follow your child's pace. A practical 3–5 minute starting activity, with no pressure to perform.

  1. 1 · Connect & demonstrate: Place one ball or car at the top of the ramp. Say, “Ready, set, go!” and let your child decide when to release it.
  2. 2 · Share the play: Take turns launching one object, pausing for an anticipatory look, gesture, sound or AAC request for “more.”
  3. 3 · Grow together: Compare two launches, name 'fast' and 'slow', or count how many turns each person takes.

Make the activity work for your child

For ADHD, use a clear two-turn game; for ASD or sensory differences, repeat a predictable launch routine and offer control over noise. Keep balls and small cars away from children who mouth objects.

What matters most: notice your child's interests, offer genuine choices, welcome different ways of communicating, and end on a positive shared moment. These are educational play opportunities, not treatments or guaranteed outcomes.

Learning through movement

  • Visual tracking from the top of a ramp to the collection area
  • Cause-and-effect play and early predictions about direction and speed
  • Turn-taking, simple action words and counting how many objects roll
  • Grasping, positioning and releasing balls or cars with caregiver support

Parent–child activity guide

  1. Set a clear start: Position the ramp on a stable level surface and check that every lane is assembled securely.
  2. Follow one ball: Slowly place one ball on the top track. Point along its route, saying “ready – go – down!”
  3. Choose an object: Offer a red ball and a car; invite the child to select using words, gaze, pointing, gesture or an AAC board.
  4. Take a turn: Ask the child to release one object while you watch. Switch roles for the next turn.
  5. Extend the play: Compare which lane an object travelled, count finished runs, or predict which item will arrive first.

Individualised ways to play

ADHD / high energy: Introduce a short two-run challenge followed by standing and fetching the objects. Autistic children: Use the same “choose – release – watch – collect” routine and clear turn markers before introducing extra toys. Developmental delay, intellectual disability and physical-support needs: Start with one visible track, assist grasp and release as appropriate, and celebrate watching or selecting as valid participation. Activities are educational opportunities rather than treatment claims.

What is included
