What's pictured / What to choose
Pictured stove, pans, lids, plates, food pieces, utensils and condiments; see product images for supplied components.
Step 1 — Connect & demonstrate
Lay out one pan, one food piece and one spoon. Say, “Turn the knob to cook. Stir slowly—one, two, three.” Demonstrate once; let your child copy only the action they enjoy.
Step 2 — Share the play
Take turns as cook and customer. Model “What would you like?”, “Fish, please,” and “Here you go.” Use picture menus, gestures or an AAC device; offer a choice of two foods instead of many.
Step 3 — Grow together
Try a three-step routine: choose food, cook it, serve it. Add sorting into vegetables and proteins, pretend prices, setting the table and putting every item back in its place.
Adaptations for different learners
ADHD and high activity: Keep the cooking task brief and active; assign one role at a time, such as stirring or serving, and switch roles after a movement break. Autism / ASD: Use a picture sequence (choose → cook → serve), show finished food before starting and let the child control pretend sounds and textures. Developmental, language or intellectual disabilities: Offer large, easy-to-identify food choices, model single verbs such as “stir” and “eat”, and accept pointing or AAC selections. Children can communicate through words, gestures, pointing, signs, pictures or AAC.
Parent FAQ — Montessori & Waldorf
This is Montessori-inspired practical-life role play; Waldorf-inspired imaginative storytelling can also fit. Does it cook real food? No—pretend food and stove only; never use actual heat.
Safety, documentation & learning goals

These are educational play suggestions, not a treatment, diagnosis or guaranteed developmental outcome. Adult supervision is needed; review age guidance, small-part risks and product condition before play.
