A Parent & Caregiver Guide to Meaningful Interaction
1. Visit the Teddy Bear Clinic
Ask the child to choose a patient: a teddy, doll or grown-up. Greet the patient and say, “How can we help today?” Invite the child to select a tool or role.
2. Follow a Friendly Checkup Routine
Use a first–then picture sequence: first listen with the toy stethoscope, then look at the pretend thermometer. Model a calm voice and let the child explore equipment without pressure.
3. Practice Requests and Choices
Ask “Would you like the thermometer or the clipboard?” Children can communicate through speech, gesture, pointing or AAC. Name each action without demanding a verbal answer.
4. Play Reception and Appointments
Take turns registering a patient, writing a pretend note and inviting the next patient into the clinic. Follow with a simple tidy-up routine together.
Adapting the Game for Different Needs
Autism (ASD): use a predictable visual routine; let the child know what comes next and never insist on physical contact during examination role play.
ADHD and high activity levels: assign active roles such as receptionist, equipment organizer or doctor; offer brief rounds and opportunities to move between tasks.
Developmental delay and intellectual disabilities: begin with a single familiar action, repeat short phrases, and gradually build to a two-step doctor story when ready.
AAC and communication differences: offer picture choices for “help,” “hurt,” “stop,” “again,” and tool names. Respect consent when pretending to examine another person.
Shared imaginative play offers opportunities to practice communication, empathy, confidence and everyday routines. This is a pretend-play toy rather than real medical equipment or medical treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this suitable for an autistic child or a child with ADHD?
It offers flexible role play when the routine is adapted to the child's preferences. Try short, visual, repeatable care stories, allow choice of role, and take breaks as needed.
Can this help my child prepare for a medical visit?

They feature different clinic structures, colors and themed play environments. Select your preferred layout in the Style menu and review the matching images and packaging sizes.
